Blues rock guitarist Julian Sas was inducted into the prestigious Dutch Blues Hall of Fame on May 22, 2025. This is awarded to artists who are of inestimable value to Dutch blues history, and Julian Sas is undoubtedly one of them.

If there is a blues rock group in the Netherlands that can give a dazzling show, it is the Julian Sas Band, an icon in the Dutch blues and rock world. His concerts are both fiery and raw, where the sparks literally fly from the guitar, but also calm and quiet. Always versatile, creative and passionate.

Sas, born in 1970, saw rock and roll phenomenon Chuck Berry on TV at the age of six and this gave him a huge boost to start playing himself. It was not until he was eleven that he received a guitar from his parents and after seeing Jimi Hendrix he started practicing fanatically. Following the example of other guitar greats such as Johnny Winter, John Lee Hooker, Freddie King and Jeff Beck, Julian played in various bands from 1983 onwards.

Four years later he was at a concert of Rory Gallagher, who became a great source of inspiration for Julian. After his death in 1995, Sas played a few more times with the two other members of Gallagher’s band Gerry McAvoy and Brendan O’Neill.

At the end of 1994 he formed his own group. Many performances at home and abroad followed, which gave him a lot of fame. Two years later, in 1996, his first album ‘Where will it end?’ was released and after that twenty others were released. The most recent ‘Miles and Memories’, early 2025.

With his current formation, which consists of himself (vocals/guitar) and Edwin van Huik on bass guitar and Lars Erik van Elzakker on drums, the group can often be seen at various festivals. In 2024 and 2025 his 30th anniversary tour will take place. Where will it end? That is impossible to predict. At least not for the time being.

Eind 1994 formeerde hij een eigen groep. Vele optredens in binnen- en buitenland volgden, wat hem veel bekendheid gaf. Twee jaar later, in 1996 verscheen zijn eerste album ‘Where will it end?’ en daarna zijn er nog twintig andere uitgebracht. De meest recente ‘Miles and Memories’, begin 2025.

Met zijn huidige formatie, die naast hemzelf (zang/gitaar) bestaat uit Edwin van Huik op basgitaar en Lars Erik van Elzakker op drums is de groep veelvuldig te zien op diverse festivals. In 2024 en 2025 vindt zijn 30^ste jubileumtour plaats. Where will it end? Dat is niet te voorspellen. In ieder geval voorlopig zeker niet.
